VOLUNTARY PRE-KINDERGARTEN

School Readiness Program is a state funded program which is based on a sliding fee scale according to income and may require a fee. Head Start provides extended care services before and after normal hours for the working parent or parents attending school. Families may apply for extended care services. We also provide Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) which is a state funded program for children, who are 4 years old by September 1st of the program year, for parents who want their child to receive additional instructional hours. The VPK program is a free program that requires children to attend classes for three hours. Private Pay is when parents pay for additional hours of care. The Extended Care hours are 6:30 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. The regular Head Start hours are from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. VPK hours are 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Extended Care is childcare for working parents, parent attending school or parents wanting their children to receive additional instructional hours of care. Extended Care Options: Private Pay - pay for additional hours before and after normal Head Start hours (8:00-2:00) at the rate of $2.75 per hour and portion of an hour ( one hour and fifteen minutes, one hour thirty minutes and one hour forty-five minutes will be charge two hours etc.) Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten (VPK) Program is a state funded program for children who are four years old by September 1, of the program year. The VPK Program requires children to be in attendance for three instructional hours a day to complete 540 hours a program year. School Readiness Program is a state funded program which usually requires parents to have a fee. Parents must be working or attending school to be eligible to participate in the Extended Care Program. This requirement does not affect VPK parents. Holmes and Washington Counties families will be referred to Early Learning Coalition of Northwest Florida, for assistance. Walton County families will be referred to Child Care Services Office in Defuniak Springs for assistance. Responsible Person: Center Coordinator, Extended Care Teacher and VPK Teacher Forward copies of the weekly fee payment and monthly attendance records to the Education Coordinator. Notify the Education Coordinator of all children attending or drop from extended care.
